Our Story

While teaching high school choir, several of

Ms. Courtney L. Wright’s students couldn’t recall any of the basic music skills that they learned in elementary music. They could remember learning what a quarter note and other rhythmic symbols were, but they just couldn’t remember what they were called or how many beats they were worth. They also couldn’t remember other music symbols. Their music literacy needed a refresh and a reboot to improve their confidence in their music reading and musicianship and performance skills.  

 

After her young daughter was born, she began teaching elementary music. She would teach her students the basics, and still, they just couldn’t remember what the rhythmic symbols were called and how many beats they received. She was determined to create a way for her students, and all children and adults, to recognize, describe, and apply the basics in music literacy. She also had a lifelong dream to write a children’s book.

 

Quincy the Quarter Note was created so all students who are just learning how to read music, or older children and adults who needed a musical reminder, to have a character they can relate to and connect with so they can reach all of their music reading and performing needs and dreams!
